Real World has always tried to help people be more aware of the world around them, but in season 20 of The Real World, MTV is going one step further and helping you learn how to treat the world better.   

Real World: Hollywood, which premieres in 2008, will feature many cool ideas on how to reduce power consumption, utilize recycled products, and just generally be a more earth concious citizen.  Many of these methods, like using energy saving lightbulbs, unplugging chargers once you're finished, and turning off lights when you leave a room, are easy ways to give back without sacrificing too much comfort.  

We want to hear how you think you can help.  Post some videos describing ways you help the environment and we'll put the best responses up on the homepage.  We want to reward your good deeds!

The VMAs came and went, and Vegas will never be the same.  Well, it probably will, but the VMAs kicked some serious butt anyway.

Dear RWC Community, 

I sit back and am amazed everyday at how the site has evolved.  You've built a diverse, passionate, sincere and warm community with incredible and continual video and blog contributions as well as your genuine connections.

Something you may not know is, alongside myself, you've caught the eye of so many here at MTV. The VMA Casting team asked us if the community would be able to help them find a new fresh red carpet VJ host. Unfortunately the VMAs are happening in just over 3 weeks, which would have left us only 2 short weeks for the entire casting process....a woefully inadequate amount of time for you to truly show off your talents as well as get votes. It just wouldn't be fair.  

We ourselves got so excited about this new opportunity that we teased a bit sooner than we should have with details still in the works and we apologize greatly for our gun-jumpage. Because of the timing issues described, the VMA casting site has therefore been put on hold in lieu of other casting opportunities coming down the road.  But realworldcasting.com will remain a central place for you all to stay in contact with each other. With such a dedicated group of individuals, we are quickly working on your next casting opportunity. Details are in the works , so you won't have to wait too long! 

We realize this is a major bummer and we ourselves wish it could be. But there are still other chances to get yourself behind the velvet VMA ropes. Meet the 7th Housemate for Real World 20......PretyBoy!!!

First we would just to say congrats to PretyBoy for being cast as the 7th housemate.  He worked hard to get where he is and we are very proud of him!  We know he's going to be great for the show and can't wait to see what the house has in store for him and the other 6!

We would also like to give a special shout-out to the top 10 who also spent countless hours entertaining us.  You are all incredible and we're sad that we can't have all of you in the house. 

And lastly, thanks to everyone who participated.  Without you guys there would have been no site, so our congratulations to you as well for helping us making history!

Shortly after rwc.com has served its purpose we're going to be rolling out an all new surprise casting site that, trust us, has a very sweet payoff.  All of your profiles will transfer over when the new site launches in the next few weeks, so only the vote counts will be reset.

Dear rwc.com Community,

We normally wouldn't even respond to manufactured rumors and conspiracy theories but this recent "right-click-view-source-the-competition-is-rigged!!" fiasco has caused too much confusion to go unaddressed. 

As certain users have already figured out (but not before helping spread the rumor!) the number you are seeing which is being confused for vote count is in fact the user's unique ID number. If you read the entire code, you will see this number throughout.  Here's a technical explanation directly from our designer:

"This is CSS and HTML script, it is used for the visual layout of the page, and the ID number is used to uniquely identify that person's vote count location within the HTML on the page (for Javascript layout purposes).  There is nothing secret about any of this, and it surely doesn't indicate anything about vote totals"

So one final time - This competition in no way, nor has ever been, rigged! There are many fine people back here at rwc.com central that have worked long and hard on this site. Meet your top 10!

Well, here we are, folks.  The top 10 has been announced, only one of whom can be crowned the 7th Housemate on the next Real World!

So here's the low on Round 5:

You have one week to vote for your favorite from the top 10 - From 9AM on July 11 to 12AM on July 18. 

Since this is the final round, all voting will be blind - you won't be able to see who's in the lead - because we don't want to spoil the surprise of announcing the winner.  Also, the top 10 profiles are set to randomize...which means that their placement under the "top 10" and "who's winning" sections do not necessarily match their vote counts. 

For the 10 of you who made it to Round 5, here are the rules and requirements you MUST fulfill in order to qualify for the final prize:

Round 5 is open for 1 week - from 9:01am (EST), July 11, 2007 until 12:00am (EST), July 18, 2007

All interview results will be delivered to Bunim & Murray Productions on Tuesday for them to deliberate.  Results will be posted to the website on Wednesday at which time you'll be able to begin voting for your fav from the top 10!

In the mean time, show us your pets!  Upload the cutest videos of your cuddly compadres and we'll post the best of the bunch on the web!

We've been receiving lots of e-mails from the community asking us what the heck is going on with Round 4 and 5...so we thought it would be good to give a quick rundown...

Round 4 is a closed interview round which ends at 9AM Eastern on Wednesday, July 11.  This means that no voting can take place until Round 5 begins.

During Round 4, RW Producers will be conducting interviews with the top 50 from Round 3 as well as a few wildcards from Late But Worth the Wait.  The producers will then decide on a top 10 who will move on to Round 5 based on these individual interviews.

Round 5 is the last round before a winner is chosen, and your last chance to vote for your favorite hopeful!  There will be no last minute entrants this time....it's just these 10 finalists vying for the top spot!

While the producers are doing their interview thing, we have a question for the rest of you....

If you were to pick a group of celebrities to live in the same house Real World style, who would they be and why?  Submit your video responses and we'll feature the best on the homepage!

Hopefully you're all out celebrating our nation's independence, but for those of us at MTV unlucky enough to be working, we want to remind you that today is the LAST DAY OF ROUND 3!

Tomorrow morning at 9AM ET Round 3 voting will be closed, so now is your last chance to get those votes.

Dear Real World Casting Community:

We've been receiving some comments lately from folks accusing certain members of the community of cheating or padding their vote counts.

We have many website moderators in place to ensure that everything is as secure and fair as possible throughout the whole voting process.  Our watchful eyes don't miss much, and rest assured that we are keeping tabs on any individuals exhibiting suspicious e-behavior.

Also of concern is the amount of negative comments we've seen popping up on the site.  This is completely unacceptable and, frankly, we're disappointed that any member of our community engages in this behavior.  It's juvenile and ridiculous, and will not be tolerated from anyone.  We have assigned moderators to check for this specifically, and ANY user found posting obscene, racist, homophobic, or any other derogatory remarks will be immediately disqualified and banned.  Come on, guys...you're above that!

Lastly, some of you have received e-mails regarding the need to fax in ID verification.  If you have already submitted your fax and are sure it went through properly, give us a few hours to receive and catalogue your information before you contact us.  We have many people working to make sure we account for every document in a secure fashion. 

We understand that this is a very hectic time for everyone involved with this casting and we are doing all we can to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible!

Oh, it's on!  Round 3 Kicks Off!

Round 3 is here!  We're getting closer and closer to the final prize, so take no prisoners! 

Congrats to everyone who made it over from Round 2....you set yourself apart from the thousands of contestants to make it this far, so don't let up now because Round 3 is one of the last chances you'll have to prove yourself to the voting public.

For those who didn't quite make it, the game doesn't have to end here!  You can either remain on as a voter and make sure your friends and favs make it to Round 4, or you can give it a second shot in our "Late but Worth the Wait" category.  We created this special category just for those who may or may not have entered before, but think they've got the goods.  This is your last chance to enter as a new contestant, because when Round 3 closes, so does this opportunity.

Round 2 ends on June 28, so there's only a few days left to get those votes.  We've noticed some serious place shifting in the past few days so give it what you got, because it's anyone's game.  Make sure you're on top when we get to the home stretch!

Introducing the Eleventh-Hour Entrants! 

Maybe you didn't get enough votes to get into Round 2? Maybe you just heard about the website today? Whatever your reason is it doesn't matter as long as you opt in to be a part of the Eleventh-Hour Entrant competition.  Starting right now you have the option to join a side competition as a "Eleventh-Hour Entrant" participant.  Once you log in, you must click on the button that says "Join Eleventh-Hour Entrants" to be considered as a contestant.  If you do not choose this option, your profile will be converted into a voter only profile.  You will be allowed to vote for the contestants you think belong in Round 3 and make profile comments, BUT  you will no longer be in the running to become the 7th cast member of Real World Season 20.   HOWEVER, as a Eleventh-Hour Entrant contestant you still have a chance to get back in the game!  Just like in round 1, you have to get out there and get votes.  So post more videos, write more blogs and do what it takes to get those fans voting for you.  At end of Round 2, a select few Eleventh-Hour Entrants with the highest votes will be entered into the official Round 3 competition.

Dear RWC Community,

We are extending Round 1 to Monday, June 11th at 9:00AM EST to give those of you who have not reached 1000 votes, but are close, a chance to do so. The vote audit that was initiated yesterday subtracted votes that were received from massive amounts of fraudulent voting accounts -- these votes were not from legitimate Real World Casting voters. Although some of you may feel that the adjustment of votes to your account was an accusation of cheating, it was not and is not. The fraudulent voter accounts spread a very large number of votes across the community in an attempt to discount the integrity of the RWC voting system. The adjustments that have been made to some hopefuls reflect the true number of votes received from legitimate Real World Casting voters and we would not want it any other way. We understand your frustration and as mentioned, we have given all of you who are close to 1000 votes the opportunity to work through the weekend to make 1000 and to transition into Round 2. We are very concerned about the integrity of the community and the overall community experience. We thank you for your patience and understanding -- we look forward to Round 2!

Hey realworldcasting.com Users!

It's been an interesting couple of weeks full of getting to know each other, getting to know the site, working on balancing the haters/lovers and for us, working on balancing the bugs on our first casting site! We first want to take this time to thank everyone for sticking it out and getting all the votes you have! It's only going to get better from here!

Now, as we are getting closer to the first round coming to an end we want to remind you of a few things before going into Round 2:

1. You MUST have a video posted to be eligible to move onto Round 2 - no matter how many votes you have. We've noticed a few of you at the top do not have a video yet. Congrats on all the work you've done getting all your votes but it will all be for nill if you don't have a video come Round end.

2. You MUST have a blog answering the mandatory Round 1 blog question (What do you consider your best traits? Your worst?) to be eligible to move onto Round 2 - again no matter how many votes you have. We have noticed most if not all of you have blogs but not always answering the Round 1 blog questions. Get-er done!

3. And most important thing you should remember: only ONE person from this site will be cast into the next Real World house Season 20. A lot of you seem to believe that the entire house is being cast from here. Not the case unfortunately (but if this "experiment" goes well, maybe one day!). The six roomates for Season 20 are being cast the traditional way by the good folks at Bunim-Murray leaving the ONE and final seventh roomie coming directly from our little ol' site. So yes! The payoff of getting the most original votes is that much more important. GET OUT THERE!! Campaign! Get your friends to become Voters (incentive: the Voters contributing most will be featured on TV too). You're gonna be "the first" and he/she who wants it the most (remember only one of you) will get the bragging rights.

 Now that our ducks are more in a row, good luck out there! This is a great "history in the making" phenomenon to be involved in so have fun with it.  Don't forget to keep checking here for updates!

After 19 amazing seasons of The Real World, MTV is revolutionizing the casting process by allowing you, the viewers, to help pick the next housemate.  Not only are we are giving all of you the power to help choose who the next housemate will be, you will have a chance to be one yourself!  This new innovation in the casting process puts power in the hands of people who watch and love the show.  If you know and love The Real World, it doesn't get any cooler than this. 

Are you one of those people who are always told that you should be on television?  Have you always wanted to be part of The Real World?  If so, this is your chance.  The new casting website enables you to create a profile where you can tell the world why you are perfect for The Real World.

After you sign up and create a profile, you can add pictures, write blogs, write comments and even upload videos.  In fact, if you want to be a housemate you HAVE to upload a video of yourself.  That way, the MTV producers - and the world - can see exactly why you were meant to be on The Real World.  You will be given a link to your own profile so you can direct friends, family and everyone else you know to your page so they can vote for you.  The more votes you get the better chance you have of making into the house.  Plus, everyone who has a profile can vote.

There will be 6 rounds of voting.  After each round, we will ask you to add another piece of content to your profile like a new video, picture or blog.
